BUS 475 WEEK 9 RESPONSE TO A PEER:
The article I choose this week is from Fedweek which is an internet/paper that covers news for the federal workforce. The reason I choose this is because as a retired military member and now a member I am always amazed at the amount of effort and training the federal government puts in to recruiting and retaining a diverse group of employees. When I was in the military everyone had to be fit and a certain age and have their hair in regulations and we all wore the same clothes, the military is the biggest discriminator of diversity that you will ever come across. The federal workforce is so much more diverse, we hire people missing limbs, people that are blind and people that are well past their prime. We have yearly training on how to work in such a diverse workplace and how to be inclusive and support each other. The numbers that show the diversity in the federal government on my link are incredible compared to civilian companies. I am really proud of the job we do and how inclusive we are.

BUS 475 WEEK 10 DISCUSSION:
Community relations are a large part of business outreach and growing a brand. If you’ve been to a community event such as a neighborhood festival, charity event, or 5K race, you’ve seen sponsorship banners and ads. Likewise, you might have seen ads from local businesses in the program at a school concert or other children’s event.

Find a business outreach event within the past year in YOUR LOCAL community. What business(es) sponsored the event? What was the purpose of the event? How do you think this event brings your community together?
OR
Discuss ways that your local community is pulling together and supporting one another during the current pandemic/COVID. How are small businesses and society working together in your town?

BUS 475 WEEK 11 DISCUSSION:
Throughout the course, a variety of concepts/topics were introduced. Please share 1 -2 things you enjoyed the most; feel free to discuss critical “takeaways” about the relationship between business and society.

HIS 105 WEEK 9 RESPONSE TO A PEER:
President Clinton will always be famous for a lot of things but one of them will absolutely be free trade and NAFTA. I am sure you all heard about this during the 2016 primary races and general election and how it affected the American economy in good and bad ways. Clinton felt that the implementation of NAFTA would open up the world market to American farmers and manufacturers and vice versa. Advocates saw this as an opportunity to help increase profits for Americans and increase the GDP and lower unemployment while those who were against NAFTA (some of which were Clinton supporters and the base of the Democratic party) felt that this would cause American manufacturers to move their manufacturing jobs overseas for cheaper labor and would be detrimental to the American economy. Both sides had valid arguments and they turned out to be true, the American manufacturing sector was brutally destroyed with the surge of companies moving overseas and this left millions of Americans unemployed and unqualified for the new technological era that was upon us. I understand the pros and cons of NAFTA with the expansion of access for American companies to foreign markets and the fear of losing those same companies to cheaper labor. Unfortunately NAFTA did more harm than good, the United States is filled with shells of former mills and plants for manufacturing and the job losses. With hindsight being 20/20 this is something that should have never been passed it did more harm than good and two plus decades later we are still dealing with the effects of NAFTA and America doesn’t produce half of what it once did. We should be mindful about what we are sacrificing in the name of American success because it may sound good or look good on paper but does not mean it is true.

HIS 105 WEEK 10 DISCUSSION:
Part 1: Post a Response
Between 200 and2016, the US experienced remarkable changes internationally and domestically. By any measure, the terrorist attack of Sept. 11, 2001, was a game changer. With that a long, still-ongoing war on terror began that meant military engagements overseas and increased domestic security measures. In 2008, remarkably, the US elected its first African American president, Barack Obama. He was elected to a second term in 2012.
Choose and discuss one of the following two topics related to American history under Presidents Bush and Obama:
1.    Discuss the Sept. 11 (2001) attack and its impact.
o    Describe what stands out to you (perhaps from memory) from the events of Sept. 11, 2001
o    Give two examples of events or changes since 9/11 that you attribute to that terrorist attack. In your view, what should we learn from this attack and our experiences trying to deal with it.
o    Identify the source(s) where you read about these free trade issues of that time.
2.    Discuss president Obamas election and presidency. (Considering our many explorations of race relations and Civil Rights in our history, there is much that can be said of President Obamas election and presidency, and it is still perhaps too early to evaluate fully.)
o    Identify two specific examples that you think were the most important developments of Obama’s presidency.
o    Explain why you chose those two examples.
o    Identify the source(s) where you read about these changes of the early 21st Century.
Part 2: Respond to a Peer
Read a post by one of your peers and respond, making sure to extend the conversation by asking questions, offering rich ideas, or sharing personal connections.

HIS 105 WEEK 11 DISCUSSION:
Part 1: Post a Response
This week we have no new reading or subjects. Over the 11-week course, we have covered many events and issues that arose in the United States between 1865 and today. From the era of Reconstruction, the Progressive era and Jim Crow, the roaring 20s and the Great Depression, the Cold War and Civil Rights struggles, on through the age of Information to now. We have seen many examples of people struggling for rights and freedoms and people having to adapt to significant changes in the economy, technology, laws, and society. We have seen military engagements impact lives and our country. Think about these various periods and challenges.
Please do the following two things for your main post in our last discussionthis reflection:
1.    Choose a specific historical event or example and reflect on the long range effect of it on your own life.
2.    Choose another historical event and reflect on the long range impact on the modern workplaceperhaps on the profession you have chosen.
Part 2: Respond to a Peer
Read a post by one of your peers and respond. Feel free to say any fond farewells to classmates and instructors.
