For this assignment, you will analyze a JSTOR article. You must use some aspect of performance for your search. Examples can be employee performance, testing performance, theatre performance, etc. Part of this assignment is showing you can find a scholarly article within parameters. Remember that JSTOR is a database of academic articles that are about analyzing and discussing ideas, sources, and concepts. You are not analyzing a specific performance like in the Reflection essay, but you are analyzing someones research around an idea, concept, etc. An analysis is when you carefully examine a work. An analytical essay can be written about a wide range of works, to film, to literature, to performance. In this instance, you will be examining a JSTOR article. In your analysis, you will create an argument, or thesis, that you will support throughout the essay. Sample thesis statements can argue that the article was successful, missing a point, or not successful (and many other places in between). A strong thesis will identify why you are arguing your points. You can also analyze the space the article inhabits, such as arguing if the article needs to be written to help better understand the topic. You are not only stating this was a good article as the only part of your analysis, but you will dig deeper into the article, discussing the successes and weaknesses, to develop your thesis.
