Budgeting

For this exercise, please read and carefully review Case Study #13 Acquiring the Amazing Acme Pulse Oximeter located on pages 193-194 of the text. There are two parts to this exercise; Part 1: Develop a clear and concise summary of the key aspects and learning (teaching) points of the case study ; Part II: Based on the concepts of the capital budgeting process as described in Chapter#7, use the following 5-components (listed below) outlined on page-192 of the text. The text provides some good information on each aspect of the process. As Departmental Manager of the Heavenly Gates Childrens Hospital, please use this process to create a hypothetical proposal. For the purpose of this exercise, I will be serving as the chairperson for the capital budgeting committee. Please refer to Appendix D Samples of Capital Budgeting Forms which can be found on page 369-393 of the text. Please feel free to be as creative and innovative as you like in developing this assignment. My primary concern is that you are able to show a good understanding of the capital budgeting process. Please feel free to forward me any drafts (via Course Messages) of your work as you move through the process.

For those interested in a more global (macro) view of health system budgeting concepts and principles (why, how, when, who), I have included a pdf file titled “Strategizing National Health in the 21st Century”. This file is from an open source document provided by the World Health Organization (WHO) handbook (Chapter#8). You might find the information of interest and professional academic value-very informative read.
