As a human service professional, it is likely that you will partner with advocacy organizations in your area. The discussion this week will focus on building networks and creating collaborative partnerships within a community. You will assess some of the challenges related to building networks within a community. You will also determine the role that collaborative partnerships within a community play with regard to advocacy.

1.    Explore different ways to build networks within a community. Justify how building networks within a community is related to advocacy.
2.    Assess some of the challenges related to building networks within a community. Determine how a human service professional can overcome some of these challenges.
3.    Determine the role that collaborative partnerships within a community play with regard to advocacy.
4.    Evaluate two specific ways collaborative partnerships can be created within a community.
a.    In your answer, examine any ways you think are more effective than others.

The readings in this unit will help you explore how to build networks within a community, and why this is beneficial. The readings will also help you examine how to create collaborative partnerships, including the importance of developing multicultural partnerships within a community.
