Consideration of First-Person Narrative from “Pickman’s Model” and “The Music of Erich Zann” by H.P Lovecraft

Context:
Our readings from Lovecraft focus on first-person narratives.  In first-person narration, the events of the story are related through the lens of an individual; the account is coloured by the narrators motives, beliefs, subjectivities, etc. As readers, we must pay attention to subtext in order to find the answer to the real mystery: can the narrator be trusted. This exercise will allow you to demonstrate your ability to utilize subtext to identify a trustworthy or untrustworthy narrator.

Prompt:
Using the narrators from “Pickman’s Model” and “The Music of Erich Zann”, identify which narrator that you find trustworthy and which that you find untrustworthy. Using textual evidence, create one, unified response that demonstrates and supports why you consider one trustworthy and the other untrustworthy. The response must be one unified essay, with introduction, body (evidence), and conclusion. This is a compare/contrast assignment
