Below is additional clarification about goals and outcomes, thesis statement, and length. Please remember to view the You Tube videos that I posted on Course Content which cover thesis statements and topic sentences:

ANALYZE Analyze the ways in which culture acts as a social category (like a social glue) and how it expands, contracts, and develops over time.

SYNTHESIZE Synthesize how scholars interpret culture, by considering their theories and their approach in the context of Latin America.

CONTRAST Contrast how race, class, gender, sexuality, politics, language, and/or culture impact and/or reflect the Latin American experience.

APPLY Apply the use of primary (if applicable) and secondary sources by comprehending the differences between them and acquiring the rudimentary skills of a research paper.

Guidelines for undergraduate students (SPAN 4319):

It must be at least 2,000 words in length, 12-point font, in your own words (app. 8-10 pages), and with a bibliography of 5-7 peer-reviewed, academic sources. If you quote directly from an article or book, you must provide proper attribution and citation of your sources. Your paper must include a thesis statement that covers the content of your overall paper and engage with at least 3 of the 5 Goals and Outcomes (above).
