Choose ONE of the following topics. Remember to provide references. Also, remember not to copy and paste from any sources – summarize and analyze in your own words.

1. What do you think Weisel’s goal was in writing Night? Do you think he accomplished it?
The story in “God on Trial” is based on a real event Weisel recounts in another book. Based on Night, which side do you think Weisel supported? What evidence would he have used?
2. Weisel says that his faith was one of the things killed at Auschwitz. Are you a religious or spiritual person? Or, perhaps you are a humanist with faith in humanity? If so, then how has this course affected your faith? Naturally, please use examples/ideas from our readings and films this week to support your essay.
3. Imagine you are a Jew somewhere in the process from detention to camp. Write a letter to be smuggled out. Who are you? What is the purpose of your letter? What ideas, details, and examples will you include to support that purpose? In other words, use our readings and films this week to inform the contents of your letter.
4. Fred Rogers, who had a children’s show on PBS called Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, told a story about when he saw scary things in the news as a boy: My mother would say to me, Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping. To this day, especially in times of disaster, I remember my mothers words, and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers so many caring people in this world. Are you comforted by the helpers in Chapter 13? Or, are you overwhelmed by the scary things? Naturally, please use examples/ideas from our readings and films this week to support your essay.
