Literacy Narrative PaperInstructions:In a personal essay of 1000-1500 words, describe a significant moment in your life related to literacy.  You may define literacy as the ability to read and write, but you may also consider other types of literacy, including visual literacy, technological literacy, mathematical literacy, cultural literacy, and others.  A literacy narrativetells a story related to literacy.  A literacy narrative often focuses on a memory, milestone, significant life event, or another topic related to the authors life.  A literacy narrative is written in first-person and is based on the authors own experiences.  First-person point-of-view requires the use of I,me,and other personal pronouns. In the past students, have written about their first memories with reading and writing, memorable teachers or classroom experiences, memorable books, bad or negative experiences with reading and writing, learning a new language, traveling to a new country, and a variety of other topics.  The Malcolm X essay Literacy Behind Bars and the Sherman Alexie essay Superman and Me are examples of well-known literacy narratives. Goals of the Assignment: 1. Demonstrate an understanding of literacy, why literacy is important, and how literacy relates to human experiences.  2.  Practice reflective, personal writing.3.  Apply organizational principles for personal narrative.Craft introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion.  4.  Use grammar and language in clear, correct, and appropriate ways.  Research:No research is required.A References page is not required for this paper.  Length:Your final paper must include at least 1000 words of written text.  It should not exceed 1500 words of written text.  Formatand Organization:Use thesample APA paper in Chapter 61of the Lunsford textbook as a model for how to format the final draft.  An abstract is not required.Use APA format, including a title page.  Number each page of the paper according to APA formatting conventions.  Use 12 point Times New Roman or a comparable font.  Double-space the entire document. 
This is a personal essay about your own life experiences. A personal essay is typically organized in either chronological order or topical order. Chronological order involves telling a story based on how the events in the story took place over time. In other words, simply tell the story as it happened in real life, from start to finish. A topical organizational pattern does not move through time, but instead uses separate paragraphs to address separate topics. Choose one of these organizational approaches for this essay.The introductionis the opening paragraphof an essay. The introduction of a good personal essay should get the readers attention by engaging one or more of our five senses. Usethe opening paragraph to set the scenecraft an image for readers and make clear that the essay relates to literacy. The final paragraph of the essay, the conclusion, should wrap up the story and emphasize why the moment was significant in your life. You may also use the conclusion to describe what others can learn from the story youve told in the essay.Grading:Your paper will be graded based on the grading rubric included in the course syllabus.  The rubric describes the characteristics of an A paper versus a B paper and so on.  Use the rubric as a resource as you work on this assignment.  If your goal is to earn an A, you should review the rubric and work toward a final draft that exhibits the qualities of an A paper as outlined in the rubric.  Other notes:Sample literacy narratives and supplemental readings appear in Canvas.  The content in Modules #1 and #2 is meant to help you understand the goals of the assignment.  Apply that content to your work as you begin this
