TSV Trailblazers: A New HR Approach at Textron Specialized Vehicles

-Organization: Textron Specialized Vehicles
-Training section of the paper has been completed
-I will provide some more details specific to the company and recommendations

You must then develop a strategic plan for the organization’s HR processes that you just analyzed. This action plan and recommendations will be based on your course reading and research on HR topics. The information in the first part is support for what should be the majority of your paper, which is the strategic plan.

The paper will be in APA format, 12-15 pages PLUS the title page, references, and appendices.  You may go a little over, but under 12 pages will affect the grade.  8-10 valid academic articles are required, in addition to references from reputable HR sources (see end of this announcement).  What does that mean?  To count as an academic reference, it must:

-not be a website resource
-have an author, date of publication, and page/paragraph number
-Normally be from a peer-reviewed journal.  Your SWU Librarian can help you with database searches and Boolean Logic
-No blogs are of any academic value

There are a large number of sections to the paper.  You are required to use at least APA Level 1 & 2 headings.  The format could be (this is how I would structure a paper given the assignment instructions – you have creative license to change this format, but it still needs to include all of the requirements):

Title Page in APA format

TOC (not counted in the minimum page count)

Title of Paper

Introduction paragraph (NO HEADING – just the introductory paragraph – follow APA format). Should include a brief company description (sentence or two), and brief descriptions of the HR issues/challenges and r ecommendations/solutions (a few sentences each) that will be presented in the paper.

[Organization Name] Overview

In this section, cover all of the points in the “Requirements for the Overview of the Organization” section of the instructions. (Much of this could have citations from the organization’s website or business magazines. That’s okay. Support from academic articles comes later.) This is the “Executive Summary.” It shouldn’t be more than about a page long. Some possible headings are:

Organizational Structure  (APA Level 2 headings) (Refer to org chart in appendix, if included)

Locations (or Products or Services)

Competitors

Organization Culture

Organizational Communication

Note: If this is not a Christian organization, don’t make statements about HR and Christian values that imply that the organization should abide by Scripture. If you include a biblical worldview, it is in comparing HR and Christian values objectively. For example:

Jones (1995) stated the importance of knowing your mission statement and that “Jesus was given several ‘business opportunities’ that did not relate to his mission. Each of these opportunities was related to talents that Jesus had . . . But he resisted them because they did not fit his mission statement” (p. 13). Similarly, through the performance management system, human resource managers can help employees to identify their fit and help them to develop their talents in alignment with their personal mission statement, which benefits the organization by aligning those personal missions with the mission of the organization. (See how I used a biblical principle to illustrate what happens in performance management and employee development? That’s what we’re looking for.)

Human Resource Management at [Organization Name]

Start with a paragraph briefly summarizing the organization and state that several areas of HRM will be analyzed in the following sections.

-Recruitment and Selection
-Compensation and Benefits
-Performance Management System
-Training Program
-Diversity and Inclusion

Recommendations

Start with a paragraph briefly summarizing the HR areas listed above, and state that recommendations for improvement will be made regarding those areas. This is the most important part of this paper. You need to spend a lot of time here. This is where your research will be the most important. The solutions shouldn’t just come out of your head. They need to come from experts and that must be evident in your citations.

Recruitment and Selection [Include in each section what tools or processes would be used for the recommended change – Why/how the organization would use various tools available to HR to improve these areas]

Compensation and Benefits

Performance Management System

Training Program

[One Other Area] same as analyzed above

Action Plan

Your action plan will state which recommendations the organization could initiate immediately, which should be done over time (be specific), and also add what future research should be done. (You may not have an answer for every challenge the organization faces, and that’s okay. You just have to state the challenge in the HR overview, and state that more research needs to be done in those areas to determine the best options.) This is helping the organization to understand how and why the changes in HR need to be implemented. Research about the successful implementation of the tools or processes you suggest would support your argument.

Conclusion

A conclusion summarizes the entire paper and does not add any additional information (including a Scripture verse that’s tagged on to meet the requirement that the paper has a Christian worldview). It’s just a summary.
